Stella Maris - Cronulla

“For the last thirty-six years, I have had the privilege of being associated with Stella Maris both as a staff member and now as a volunteer. As I reflect on the years that have been, I see Stella Maris as a happy place, a lively place, and a good place to be. We have a vibrant spirit of care and love that permeates our home. People are encouraged to be independent and to share their talents and gifts for the well-being of each other and Residents know and support each other. Today as I work as a volunteer at Reception, I meet the Families and Friends of our Residents and other Visitors. As well as welcoming them to our home, I have time to chat with them. Many speak about the sense of peace they feel when they come through the front door and how they always feel welcome and part of the Family. Stella Maris is truly a special place so thank you to all those who continue to make it so”.

“As a registered nurse with Stella Maris, I have the privilege of working and assisting many residents and their families in my day-to-day role. I am proud to work for a place that creates a warm and comforting environment for those that call this place home and that promotes autonomy and wellbeing. As a former student of Our Lady of Mercy Parramatta I was taught from a young age to live by the Mercy values and now in my nursing career, allows me to provide the support and care that is needed with passion, patience and understanding.”.

“I started my journey with Judy, the Facility Manager, many years ago at a previous home. I always admired her way of managing and after she left, I can attest to the place falling apart. I set up a meeting with Judy at Stella Maris in hope I could transfer here and was successful in doing so. The high level of care and attention to detail here is no different to what I experienced previously - a true reflection and testament to the leadership team’s dedication and passion toward their job. Staff appear happy and they are always willing to help. We (the residents) feel part of a community, there are always ways to get involved, this makes you feel like you have purpose. It makes a huge difference to your day.”

“I cannot ask for a more caring community for our mother, who has given so much of herself in service to others all her life. She was a volunteer at Stella Maris for many years. Now, after a stroke that meant she could no longer live independently, she is welcomed back to the bosom of the Stella Maris family supported by a caring team and the company of friendly residents. She is enjoying activities suited to her level of mobility and delighted to watch the world go by on that beautiful coastal path with glorious ocean views on restful days in quiet contemplation. Mum’s mobility and speech has continued to improve since moving to Stella Maris, which she now considers to be her home.”

“I just love visiting Stella Maris – a smile, a hello, when I walk through the door. People coming & going – all so friendly, it truly is a happy place for staff, residents, sisters alike. I am involved in bingo, each week we gather and enjoy seeing the residents’ winning chocolates, biscuits, and other prizes. I am also involved in the monthly Auxiliary meeting; it makes my heart warm when we can hand out money, we’ve raised to support this grand place”.
